bad credit affecting job search?

I know many employers check CR before hiring anyone. Will a bad CR play a role in hiring?
My CR is bad. I have many recent charge-offs on CC accounts but no judgement or BK. Will it affect my potential employer's decision in hiring me? Is there any differences, from the employer's point of view, between charge-off, judgement, or BK? Thanks,
