I just recently found out that a CA had a default judgement against me. Upon further investigation, I also discovered that they lied about having served me me the summons at my place of work. This place of work they supposedly served me was a company I left 1 year prior to that day. Fortunately or unfortunately for me this judgement did not show up on any of my CR for 8 years. Recently I got a copy of my report in preparation for a job interview and I saw an inquiry from this CA. I called them up to find out why they inquiring on my report. It was then that i was told about the judgement against me. I am currently unemployed and I wanted to take care of this problem to avoid any hinderance on my job search by offering the CA 50cent to a dollar of the original balance. They refused instead wanted me to pay 2.5 times the amount which I definitely do not have. I have talked to a lawyer who adviced me to go back to court to request a vacation of the judgement because I was never served. I do not know how long this stuff takes in the court systems in California. I would rather prefer to settle the account and concentrate on my job search. Otherwise I need to do something. Any ideas on how to deal with this kind of situation?
