You should act as though you may have to sue to get this corrected. Therefore, you MUST dispute with the credit bureaus. This forces the collection agency to confirm or correct. If you explain the details of why this should not be on your credit reports, there is a higher standard for the investigation. A court would look at your letter and say - she told you what the problem was --- why didn't you do a THOROUGH investigation??? If they confirm and basicaly ignore your information, your suit against them is stronger.

You can make your dispute stronger if you can get the doctor's office to send you a letter that states that the insurance company ultimately paid the doctor's bill. Send a copy of the letter and other appropriate documents with your dispute to the credit bureaus. Sometimes, although not often, the credit bureaus will actually use their head and correct the situation - when they have reliable documentation to backup the claim of an "error".

Continue to keep all of your documentation and a record of all communications. You may have to find an attorney to sue them.
