Old debt

I have old credit card debt that I aquired when I lived in Michigan. I found old bills from when I first stopped paying on them, they were dated June and July of 1996, they are five accounts totalling about 25,000.00 ( one installment loan, unsecured, and the rest credit cards). The SOL in Mi is 6 years, I think I am in the clear now. Is this correct, if so how do I go about clearing this mess off my credit report. Should I persue this or should I lay low for a while longer, I really want to clear this up. Please HELP!!!!
