From all I've read, Discover is suing very quickly, not waiting for months and months with CA's, so you should go the written route to protect yourself in any settlement or payment arrangements you make. Discover is also, apparently, sending the remainders from settled accounts out to other CA's, so the debt won't go away. If you settle, try to get an arrangement where they note your account on your CR as 'paid as agreed' AND that they will NOT sell the remainder of the debt.
