Sue....what is it really about?

I have seen people say on this board that they are afraid of being sued...... I have about 20K in credit card debt that I have failed to pay in some time due to wife losing job etc...... One of the Co in which I have about 2K in debt has sent me to the local court and sued...per a note I rec months ago. It said something about resp via note and not appearing. Months later I rec another note and it stated that they may take action...... Looked like a lot of contradicting statments on the body of the garb. So what does this all mean?? Do I ignore...If I do, what will happed for 2K. We own our cars and house in TX. Thanks
