Credit Counseling Woes!!

A few years ago, I was strapped and had to get credit counseling for some of my accounts that were getting late. The credit counseling company completely messed up. My accounts were in even more serious condition than when I was paying them myself.
Since then I have discontinued the service and paid the bills myself.
I suspect that the money I was sending them was more than the total costs of the bill payments. After time the amount I was sending them had passed the amount of the TOTAL balance of all the bills. That's when I cut off the money.
I received a phone call from the company and they said that if I didn't continue to send the money, my bills would not get paid.
I explained that all the money I sent them, they should have already been paid. It seems they were just paying the minimum payment and doing I don't know what to the rest of the money.
I tried to contact them for a record of all payments made, but they have not responded to 2 letters.
Is there a better letter or law that states they have to provide the information I requested? I will never opt for Credit Coulseling again. They will screw up your finances.
