can you pay off a debt if a suit is in process?

As previously posted, I have received a valid Summons which I have verified. Upon further review I can only dispute 2 items under the SOL provision for Illinois.
My quesiton is would it be best to send the attorney for the collection agency a certified check for those charges/counts which I can pay and dispute the 2 under SOL?
