I have struggled to understand the NY lien law also,it is 20 years, however, if a REAL PROPERTY lien is filed it is only good for 10 years unless it is renewed.

Be VERY careful, there is a NY CA law firm that is very active lately on old judgments, they MUST perfect (refile) it in your own State in order to affect you, some States allow this in the same time period, others do not.
