Always show up and defend yourself. Dispute the balance and interest if you are still within SOL.You could have the case dismissed by just showing up to challenge the collection agent, wo may not have sufficient proof of your account.

If you get a default judgment (by not showing up) you can have your wages garnished, bank account garnished, and will have a judgment on record against you that DESTROYS your credit.

If it is a recent account, and the original creditor, not a collection agent,you can at least negotiate a stipulated agreement at the preliminary hearing.
