I think you misunderstood. No one will allow you to run a balance at 0% with a closed account. Again, read your agreement. They may change your interest rate at will.
Do you have a credit card that you could BT the $300 that charges less than 30%? That'll be your best bet or, pay it off as quick a possible. Reduxing the principle just $25/month will allow you to pay it off in a year. Don't stop paying and have a collection on your credit report over the interest rate on $300.
