served and confused

I just got served and im wondering about the SOL. I m in CA and I know its 4 years
But how do I find out if that 4 years is past?
On the summons it says-- on or about Nov ,4 1998 Defendent was in default on sums due on the Agreement.

So does this mean they are saying it was nov 4

by the way the sums was entered sept 27 and i just got summoned today dec 2
