Yes, if you have kept your account in good standing, you can send a "good will" letter to them saying you would like them to remove the "late" notice as it was due to (some reasonable excuse) and since you are a good customer, you would appreciate the clearing of your record.

I think a sample of a "good will" letter is to be found on my website link to either creditnet or Linda's letters.
