Any idea how they get away with this or why they would even bother ? I had a BestBuy account, which is Household Bank. I have continued to get statements from HHB even though it has been charged-off AND sent to a CA. Today I received ANOTHER statement, and it wasn't lost in the mail either. The thing that I couldn't figure was how they managed to stall the charge-off WAY past the 180-day legal limit. I only just last month got a notice that they had charged it off and were sending it to a CA.. and I have absolute documentation that the last payment I made to them was in JAN 2002 before I was laid off ! How do they do that ? Did HHB not JUST get slapped by the Feds and had to pay out big $$$ ? Oh.. and they've done the exact same thing with another account handled by HHB, Rhodes. Another odd one with the same tactic is Wal-Mart. Same time frame for last payment, and they only show it being charged off last month and Ive gotten a letter from a CA on it. This CA for Wal-Mart, send their first letter and DID NOT include any verbage that gives me the right to dispute the debt in the 30 days they're supposed to. A short 'this is an attempt to collect a debt' and that was all, besides their stupid ALL CAPS demand that I pay it immediately ! They have a lot of nerve, but they're messing with the WRONG person on this one !
