You can try to negotiate with the IRS, its possible and they really will work with you. You could try an "Offer in Compromise", but be aware that the criteria you must meet for them to accept your offer are pretty strict.

You might try finding a Taxpayer Advocate in your area to help you, that's what they're there for.
