Is this a credit card acct.? What kind of "papers" were served? Is there a case # on the "papers"? Who is the CA? Call the courthouse and find out if this is a legitimate summons. Sometimes CAs will send out papers that LOOK official but in reality they are not. It seems odd that your fiancee must appear within FOUR days of being served. Do NOT call the CA again, they will scare you into doing something stupid... like sending them $.

Sounds like the debt is beyond SOL if it's a CC debt. Their idle threats of jail are exactly just that - idle.
