If he was previously served papers and did not respond, there is a default judgment.
He is being requested to show up to provide information for collection on that judgment.
He needs a lawyer to have the judgment vacated and the case dismissed.If he can't affor one, call legal aid.
If he can't find one, he needs to appear and file a motion to vacate the judgment.
In any case, he can't be put in jail for not paying on a debt that should not have been filed for judgment in the first place.He MIGHT be held in contempt of court if he didn't show for the evidentiary hearing,but he certainly wouldn't be facing any "jail time".AND with a default judgment the rules for disclosure are very different, he will be given the benefit of the doubt.
