You need to look at the totality of your circumstances. Are you late on any other bills or, maxed out on credit cards? Things like this make lenders nervous. Don't burn any bridges with people to whom you owe money. If I got a letter like that {and I've been a lender} I'd look at the loan and if it had an acceleration clause and were ever late again, I'd sure accelerate it. If I'm a credit card issuer I cut your credit limit and jack your rate to the moon.
They did nothing wrong. You're the one who hasn't paid as agreed.
