Wife's debt

my wife has a debt that she allegedly incurred prior to our marriage (we are disputing it). we are thinking of buying a house soon, but we probably won't need her to sign onto the mortgage since she does not work, especially in light of the collection on her CR. will her poor credit rating affect mine because we are now married?
