Old debt.

I recently began getting letters, calls from CA regarding a debt past SOL that has already dropped off my credit report (experian, equifax). I do not recognize the debt from all the fees that must have been attached. The letters do not say who the original creditor is just that NCO portfolio funding is their client. How can I find out who the original creditor is or if this is even mine? I would like to send why chats SOL letter but I need that info to do it. I live in CA.
