I don't know about the validation part, but I do know that the only way to get them off your back and out of your credit report is to take them to court. In court they will have to prove you did the damage (probably by photographs if they took any). Most landlords use collection agencies (who use credit reports) because they have no real proof (otherwise they would just sue you).It's a way to get you to pay. If you did the damage and owe the money..pay up. If you didn't do what they say...take them to small claims court - otherwise the CA's entry on your credit report will stay for 7 years. If you can deal with that, forget about it.
