Ex-husband debt on my report

I went through a divorce in 1996. I called Ward's to remove my name and they said they would handle it. Of course, it is not in writing. Now my ex kept it open and filed bankruptcy in 2000. This bankrupcy is showing up on my credit. How do I get this off and am I legally responsible to pay? I have never received anything that I was still on this account or it was delinquent. I cannot find any effort of anyone trying to reach me.
