You can ignore them,you can send a cease and desist, you can do all the "FDCPA" legal stuff you want to, however, if you want to string them along you will need to do more than that. If you have a realistic reason for your default, and any realistic scenerio for making a settlement in the future, I would encourage you to discuss that with them for as long as you can. If you have vulnerable assets (if they get a judgment) I would start figuring out ways to protect those assets. Of course, the simplest and safest thing to do would be to negotiate a settleent you can afford, making sure the unpaid balance is NOT left in limbo, but accounted for as income to you with a 1099.
