boyfriend went to small claims court, questions

I posted earlier this week about my boyfriend getting papers to appear in court. He went to the hearing yesterday, was in fact for medical bills between him and his ex wife from 1988 to 93. These have been in judgement he was told and also the CA said that the SOL can be reopened. He has 60 days to figure out what to do he was told. Now he's not sure if he should try and make payments of some sort (like 5.00 a month) or file medical bankruptcy. Anyone know if they can extend the SOl or reopen it? Should he try and make payments? Thank you for any help you can give.
