When my husband and I went to CCCS we got to see right there what kind of rates we would get if we went through the program. The next day I called each of our credit card companies and asked if they could reduce our rates and most of them said yes. The rate I was quoted was even better than what CCCS could get us. There were a couple that did not want to work with me at first until I told them that had I gotten an offer for a lower rate from a different company and that if they would not reduce their rates I would transfer the balance to the new card. So my advise is to try to work with the cc companies first. If you have good credit and have made all of your payments on time they more than likely would lower your rates. Like Fenrir said CCCS will not report to the credit bureau, however the cc companies will put on your report that you are in a debt management plan. Other credit companies will view this as only slightly better than bankruptcy.
