I received a call from some management company about an outstanding balance on a Visa. FROM 1984!! The caller ID box read "Illinois" and a telephone # from area code 815. I thought, at first it was a telemarketer, so I didn't really pay much attention. The person calling was extremely rude and claimed I owed this debt and how was I going to settle. Of course, I denied the debt and asked him to submit it in writing to me. I also told him not to call again, yet today he left a message on my computer's answering machine. I was engaged to married to a deadbeat back in 1984. We've been broken up forever, but at one time we did have some joint credit cards. I Frankly my credit was trashed but over the last years I have worked hard to pay my outstanding debts and clean it up. I know have perfect credit, and happily married, own my own home etc. Even if this debt is legit, didn't the Visa write it ouff years ago? Am I still responsible? What should I do about this person calling? Return his calls, ignore him? Can he ruin my credit again? Please help. Plea
