Here's the situation: I got a letter from a debt collection agency in Chicago claiming that I owe about $500 bucks on a cell phone contract from 6 years ago. As far as I was concerned, the matter with them was settled, and I had not heard a thing from them in the last 6 years. I have since moved out-of-state, but I've always left fowarding addresses and phone numbers, so there's no reason they should have any trouble contacting me. I sent them a letter disputing the debt and telling them I didn't want to talk to them over the phone, but they continue to leave daily phone messages. I called the Illinois AG's office, and they were totally unhelpful. Any suggestions on what I should do? Ignore them? Write them another letter? I'm obviously not going to call them back.
