If you don't have an lawyer, be careful about paying debts. The state laws (I don't know Arizona law) usually specify which order debts are to be paid. The "finals costs" - funeral and burial expenses are very high on the list. This enables you to pay those expenses from whatever assets you mother had, before running out of money to pay the creditors. Of course, if you do have a lawyer, he'll know all this - won't he?

You have my sympathy on your loss.
