Getting a call from a bill collector from 1984. What should I do?

I got a call yesterday from a collection agency stating that I have a balance on my college bill from 1984. It is from the actual college and not the guarenteed student loan corp. I thought I had paid this off in 1990 but have no proof of that. I asked them to send me a copy of the orginal contract I signed and told them this bill had already been paid. They then got nasty and asked me if I was going to pay.Then they said if I didn't pay they were going to take "further action" to collect the debt. I live in Louisiana now but the bill is from a private college in Texas. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)_
