I had an account with Chase manhattan bank that was charged off back in early 2000. later that year i settled for about 50% of the total debt and paid it. throughout most of 2001, i received no calls or letters, but late that year i received a letter from a different collection agency asking for payment in full, and somehow an extra $1000 got added onto the balance. i wrote to that agency saying i have settled it via another agency, and my credit report shows a zero balance and said 'payment after charge-off'. i have not heard anything back since. and just early november of 2002 i got another letter from a differnt agency asking for payment on my chase account, and yet another $1000 got added (a total of $2000 built up during that time). immediately i wrote back saying this account has been settled and to have all communications regarding that debt stopped. again, as of now, no response since. everytime i wrote back disputing the debt, it gets sent to another company. so what is going on? why is this account being juggled from company to company? and how can they still demand payment when my credit report (transunion)shows it is paid, and i also got this account deleted from experian after a dispute.
