If you are able to monitor your credit reports, and obtain an "alerting" service from the CRA that is most active in your area of US residence, you will be OK.

I suggest you "opt out" with all 3 (or 4) CRA's to prevent inquiries that might be hi-jacked by an id thief.

If, however,you have some doubts about some specific people in your life misusing your credit information, then you should put a fraud alert on with ALL the CRA's.

Monitoring just 1 CRA is not enough now-a-days,especially if you are going to be overseas where the level of data protection is low, and the level of id theft is high.
