Unfortunately, the cc companies don't give a hoot about divorce court orders. Your name is primary on the card and they want to get paid.. so they come after you.

If the last payment was Sept 2002, the account most likely has NOT been charged off yet, and the threat of 'legal action' is probably no more than that, a threat at this point. The cc companies WILL settle, but before charge-off you won't get much of a break.

No one can garnish your wages unless they sue you and win a judgment first, that is the ONLY way they can do so. In some states, garnishment is NOT allowed.. so we'd have to know what state you're in to determine that.

This is the problem with leaving ANYTHING joint in a divorce, the court order doesn't mean diddly to creditors. If you have to pay the debt, you can drag your ex into court for contempt of court (ignoring the court order), OR you can sue him for whatever you have to pay out.
