Federal Tax Liens can be reported for up to 7 years after the date paid or satisfied. If you have a tax lien released after 10 years due to the expiration of statute of limitations, bureaus can still report for 7 years for a total of 17 years. The operative word is that they "can" report for 7 years after date of release. They are not "required" to do so. I was successful in getting all three bureaus to expunge a tax lien within 6 months after the statute of limitations expired just by pleading my case to each bureau.
