Greetings Credit Report Forum:

I'll make this short and too the point.

My father passed away in May without any insurance and with an enormous amount of credit card debt. 300K total....150K Business (Wells Fargo) 150K Personal and all of it unsecured. My mother was a co-signer on all of it...but only used a few of the cards. Dad handled all of the money for their personal accounts and business accounts. He treated my mother like a princess and shielded her from their bleak situation. Cancer comes knocking and 6 months later, Dad is no longer around to take care of her. Their company is insolvent and can no longer go on with out my father. Mom recieved a meager $1700 a month as a partial payment from my fathers Air Force retirement. About 50K left in a retirement account.

The credit card companys have been ruthless, vicious and down right mean. I can't believe that these people go home to raise children and then sleep at night. Threatening to put her in jail? To humilate her in front of her neighbors and in the community? These are publicly traded companies for crying out loud!

Now they are all sending her letters informing her of their intention to sue and try to put her in jail. Other than her house in Texas (protected under the Homestead Act), small retirement and small income...there isn't much to my fathers estate and she has nothing and no way possible of paying this back. 60 Years old and severly depressed due to my fathers recent death and current financial circumstances....tried to commit suicide once already.

Any thoughts from anybody out there? Can these jerks put her in jail? What lengths are they willing to go to put someone in a grave over these debts? Most are between 7.5K and 15K.

Many thanks in advance for your time and attention...

Best Regards...

Silver
