You are correct, they do not have to be licensed in Fl. unless they are soliciting business in Fl or representing a client in Fl. However, the lawyer who has filed in ther behalf, if a substantial % of his practice is in debt collection must be licensed,unless he does no contact for collection except law suits. In addition,if it is a collection agency in Maryland, and they are not licensed as such in Md. they have no"standing" to bring a suit for collection in Fl. However, all these issues must be raised in your answer to the Court, as well as any other affirmative defenses you may have.
