I had my phone number changed 8 months ago. Ever since then, I have been getting calls from collection agencies for the person who USED to have this number. In the beginning I was polite, knowing it was a new number.

I have had a call every day this week from the same company, and they are flat out insisting that I am hiding this person.

To make it more complicated, I live in a very small town, and I actually met the person that had this # before me, but that was years ago. I am not friends with her. They keep insisting that I need to contact her and ask her to call them. I explained that that is not my job to find her, it's their's. I told them to check with the phone company and they will see that I have had this # for 8 mos.

I spoke with the phone company and they suggested I turn them into Consumer Affairs, and change my # (again) . I will not change my number to hide from someone else's creditors.

They called again today, I got all the info such as company name, who I was speaking to, and even got his direct line (called back to make sure it was him). I told him I owuld be turning him in, and he said "ok, fine with me" .

Is there any way to PROVE that I am not who they are looking for?
