If they won't give you an address or company name, its most likely a scam. However, if you have the company name of the collection agency, post it here and we can see what we can dig up.

This '2 different people' thing is a ploy, pure and simple - typcial tactic of CA's and scam artists.

The letter WhyChat directed you to you use to send to the person(s) calling you. Tailor it to suit your needs and send it off, certified, RRR.

As for the FTC, you can file a complaint on-line at www.ftc.gov - they have a special section on ID theft too.

You could also to go planetfeedback.com and post your complaint against the bank there - I understand execs actually get those complaints.
