Assuming the account is within the SOL (which is for the state that the account originated in!)then the agency does have every right to ask for the $$-if they own the account then they have full legal rights to it. It is the agency's money, just as sure as it was the original creditors when they owned it-and it doesn't make them scum or bottom feeders, no more so than the original creditor who sold it to them-but the fact of the matter is, you do owe the money and they do have the right to contact you if the debt is in statute-bad things do happen to good people, that is understood, but have you even attempted to set up a pay plan of any kind?-even $10 a month?-keep in mind, if the debt is within statute, then YOU are the 'bad guy',not the agency-so stop trying to squirm your way out of it and step up to the plate with at least a pale imitation of an effort to rectify the situation!
