If you own a home you are entitled to exempt $7,500 in equity, if you have other personal property, the total of the personal property and homestead equity cannot be over $10,000.

If you own the home together with your spouse in joint ownerahip in the entireties, (which means you each own all the home together) and only one of you declares BK, or has a judgment against you, the homestead is entirely exempt.
