Jade, I did check with the Halo loan program, and unfortunately you cannot use them if your loans are in default. JHoyt, I looked into a FFEL and Ford consolidation on the ed.gov website, and the repayment plan I could calculate through there was identical to what DCS offered. I would have applied online for it, but you need all the loans' services, providers, etc... detail I just don't have. I have balances, but I have no idea who the originators etc are. Frankly, since it'll be no more money out of my pocket, I think I'll just go ahead with DCS. It'll be out of their hands in six months anyway. To resolve my auto-debit nervousness, I opened a second checking account with my bank, and will only deposit the amount for the auto-debit. That way, if DCS gets sneaky, they can't take any more money than they should. I'm hoping all goes well. At least I feel like I'm on the road to rehabbing my credit. Finally!
