The CA is LYING thru his teeth! Your CR probably already reflects 120+ days late if you're close to charge-off. Once it does go to charge-off, it most certainly WILL show up on your credit report. Most companies send the CRA's updates once a month, so expect it to show up pretty quickly after it happens.

Unless you can negotiate the lates away in return for payment, as well as an update to your CR to 'paid as agreed' or 'paid', all you'll see is 'paid charge-off' or 'paid settlement' - all bad !
