I was informed today that I am being sued by something called UMLIC VP LLC in reference to my First Card account. According to the papers, the suit was filed back in July of 2002, for the period from August 1999 to now. Okay, I am unemployed, absolutely no income and no tangible property to speak of...no house, no car, no bank accounts, nothing, ziltch.
I was wondering what are my options. I really have NOTHING for them to take, unless they want my 5 year old computer. Because of medical bills, when I graduated from college in 1999, I got deeper and deeper in debt and defaulted on 3 credit cards accounts. With interest, I owe around $10,000. Not to mention a hefty student loan in forebearance, so that's okay for now. I am considering accepting a default judgement, filing for bankruptcy and accepting the consequences at this point. Any thoughts?
I live in Louisiana, if that helps...
