To make my long and painful story shorter, I got too many credit cards when I was 18 in college. I cash advanced to pay rent, etc, tried to pay the minimums, and needless to say am in some major debt trouble now. I have 3 cards that have gone to collection. Two of them are through lawyer's offices (I'm not sure about the other at this time). When I was reading the page here no collection agencies there's a paragraph that talks about "why people pay" collection agencies. Don't we have to?? Is it true that if I pay off my debt through this lawyer, that it will be off my credit in 7 years? I'm talking about $2,500 each.

One of the lawyers sent me something saying to pay $77 per month for 6 months, and then we'll revisit a payment schedule then.

The other I haven't contacted yet.

Any advice would be appreciated.
