I'm sure WhyChat can clear this up, but the SOL starts with the 'cause of action', that being the delinquency on the account. The only thing I've read where a letter is required is if you intend to use a restrictive endorsement on a payment. In that case you must first notify the creditor, in writing, in advance, that you are going to do so. I don't think this has anything to do with the SOL. Credit cards technically lasting 10 years ? With a judgment maybe, but I don't think so !
