Time limit to validate a debt?

Is there a time limit for which a CA has to validate a debt? I'm in California, sent request letter for validation on 12-6-02 CRRR(within the 30 days after receiving their letter). They received mine on 12-7-02. Although I have not received anything back, they continue to call, however, within this last month they have not left any messages. I see their phone number on my caller ID. Either way, I'm ready for them! After a little research,I just found out that my SOL is up (07-98). This is really really good news for me because this debt is $48,000. Thanks to all in advance.
