Can I bribe them?

I have a number of past due notations on large dollar amounts of revolving credit that I was just about to pay off.

Will this work?: I call them and offer to pay the balance in full if they remove the negative notation from my credit.

Who has the power to remove these items? What is the best way? Also, is there a way to get past-due notations off of accounts that are paid? I have one of those, a homeloan, that was paid in full but is still showing as a negative (how much sense does that make? I pay a huge loan in full and it reports as a negative because I was once late!)

Thanks in advance for any advise or suggestions.

Mike
