Confused, Someone Help!

I have bad credit due to stupidity from 1996 - 98. I recently pulled a credit report and don't understand what it means. I tried to get advice but they all conflict eachother. If you know, please tell me so I can get my credit back on track as my life has... Questions: 1) It says my total balance is $10,347 for 24 accounts, 4 are satisfied of those, but 0 accounts were paid in full. However, the Past Due is 23 accounts for $2,374. What does this mean? 2) Installment Balance is $493, Revolving is $83, Monthly payment is $23... I don't have any accounts open though... 3) My accounts are all old. They have XXX for account numbers and most say Factoring Data, and N/A for Date Opened under COLLECTION AMOUNT. 4) Then I have one that is a COLLECTION AMOUNT with the same as above for info and but at the bottom, it says 7YR PAYMENT HISTORY, NOTHING DELINQUENT OR DEROGOTORY - ? 5) A lot of htese acounts were opened 1998 or prior but most I guess were turned over. Now it states Date OPened as 2000 and up... So, does this mean that it will be 7 more years before it comes off my credit? 6) I want to clean up my credit report... but some have advised to leave it because I will renew old debts and make my credit worse... What is the real facts? 7) I don't know who half of these people are on my report though some I can guess.... WHAT DO I DO???? Please help me with the real facts on what these mean and what I should do.
