Can anyone tell me the significance of receiving a letter from my mortgage lender that says, "this letter is being sent in place of a 1099-c". It shows the interest I paid on the mortgage loan for this past year.

To make a long story short....I bought my first house in Mar, 2002, moved in Apr 2002. Found out within first 2 days of possession that I bought a home with $17,000 in black mold damage. Moved out immediately. Only made one mortgage payment. Mortgage company immediately stopped sending me my monthly payment statements, but the house is now in foreclosure.

I have already filed my taxes and received my refund. Do I need to file an ammended return? What will this 1099-C do to my taxes? Will I owe a huge amount of money? Interest reported on the letter that was in place of the 1099-C was $700 something. Total amount of loan was $76,000.

Thank you.
