How to handle Charge offs?

What is the best way to handle charge offs? These debts are mine, but because of circumstances beyond my control, I was unable to pay the minimum and the creditors would not work with me. (I know they don't have to) Now that these accounts are charged off, and I believe CA have bought them and will start calling. The debts are all unsecured, and I live in Texas. What are my options here? Thanks for any information! Love this site!
