Well said, Lady. You really should not avoid this. If it IS a govt. backed loan, your bill is just going to get bigger. See my comments below regarding the cost of trying to avoid this particular debt. Also, look at the link below for options. Are your sure it is a govt. backed student loan? Some student loan lenders secure their funds from private sources and may NOT be covered by the SOL exemption in the US CODE. The types covered are Staffords, Perkins, etc.
